What is DLT Registration?
The mandatory process of registering a business entity, sender IDs, and message templates on India's TRAI-approved blockchain platform before sending commercial SMS.
DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) Registration is the foundational compliance step for any business sending commercial SMS in India. The process has three stages: (1) Entity Registration—registering the business on one of the TRAI-approved DLT portals (operated by Vodafone-Idea, Airtel, BSNL, Jio, or others) with the company's legal name, GST number, CIN/PAN, and contact details; (2) Header Registration—registering the sender IDs (6-character alphabetical headers for transactional SMS) with the DLT platform; and (3) Template Registration—registering each unique message template with the exact static content and marked variable fields. Each approved template receives a unique Template ID that must accompany every API message submission. The DLT blockchain ensures that all registered data is tamper-proof and auditable by regulators.

On which DLT platforms should I register in India?
You only need to register on one TRAI-approved DLT platform—registrations are synchronized across operators through the TRAI-mandated interconnection. Major platforms include Vodafone-Idea's Trubloq, Airtel's DLT, BSNL, MTNL, Jio, and T-Systems. Your SMS provider (like BhashSMS) can guide you to the most suitable platform.

Do I need separate DLT registrations for transactional and promotional SMS?
No, a single entity registration covers both categories. However, you need to register separate headers (sender IDs) for transactional and promotional messages, and register individual templates for each message type under the appropriate category.
